Alaska Golf Association - Est. 1959

Mission & Vision

What we stand for, what we're building, and the values that guide every decision we make for Alaska golf.
Our Mission
To develop, promote, and preserve the game of golf throughout Alaska.
The Alaska Golf Association is a non-profit advocate committed to providing golfers of every background - junior, new, and experienced - with the opportunities, resources, and community they need to play and grow their passion for the game. We fulfill the core duties of a USGA allied golf association: administering the handicap system, rating courses, running state championships, and educating players on the Rules of Golf. Everything we do is in service of one goal - making golf accessible and meaningful for every Alaskan golfer.
Our Vision
A thriving Alaska golf community where every player belongs.
We envision an Alaska where golf is visible, inclusive, and growing - where juniors have clear pathways to develop their game, where women's golf is celebrated and supported, where every golfer regardless of skill level has access to fair competition and a valid Handicap Index. We see an AGA that is present and trusted in every corner of the state, from Anchorage to Fairbanks to the remote courses of Southeast Alaska. Our vision is a golf community that reflects the character of Alaska itself - rugged, welcoming, and unlike anywhere else in the world.
What Guides Us
Integrity
We uphold the Rules of Golf and the spirit of the game in everything we do. Honest competition, fair handicaps, and accurate course ratings are the foundation of everything the AGA stands for.
Accessibility
Golf in Alaska should be for everyone. Free junior memberships, affordable participation, and statewide outreach ensure that no golfer is left behind because of cost or geography.
Community
Golf is better together. The AGA exists to connect Alaska's golfers - through tournaments, Town Halls, junior programs, and the simple shared experience of playing the game in one of the world's most extraordinary places.
Excellence
We hold ourselves to the standards the USGA sets for allied golf associations - and then we go further. World-class tournament management, accurate ratings, and responsive member services are the standard, not the exception.
Growth
Alaska golf is growing and the AGA is leading it. New junior programs, women's golf initiatives, expanded partnerships, and a five-year tournament vision reflect our commitment to building something lasting for the next generation.
Stewardship
As a non-profit, every membership dollar goes back into the game. We fund course ratings, junior programs, state championships, and rules education - investing in the infrastructure that makes Alaska golf possible.
Our Commitments
Championship Golf in Alaska
Running Alaska's premier amateur tournaments - State Amateur, Match Play, Best Ball, and the Jackpots - with the professionalism and care they deserve. Plus hosting four annual USGA national qualifying events that give Alaska's best players a path to the national stage.
Junior Golf Development
Free memberships, tournaments, and programs built around Alaska's junior golfers. We're committed to giving young players a real pathway - from their first round to competitive play to college golf recruitment - right here in Alaska.
Women's Golf
The AGA is actively working to grow women's golf across Alaska. From hosting the USGA Senior Women's Amateur Qualifying to supporting women's divisions in every AGA event, we are committed to making Alaska golf as welcoming for women as it is for anyone.
Accurate Course Ratings
Every rated course in Alaska has been measured and evaluated by AGA-certified raters under the USGA standard. We're committed to keeping ratings current and helping unrated facilities pursue official status - because a Handicap Index is only as good as the ratings behind it.
Rules Education
As Alaska's authoritative source for the USGA Rules of Golf, we provide education, trained officials for AGA events, and free Rules of Golf books for members. Understanding the rules makes the game better for everyone.
Strong Partnerships
Our relationships with the USGA, WA Golf, Youth on Course, Fox Hollow, and Alaska's golf courses are the infrastructure that makes everything possible. We're committed to strengthening these partnerships and building new ones that benefit Alaska's golfers.
The AGA Promise
"We simply haven't been in the forefront of the Alaskan golfer - that changes now."
Those are the words of AGA President Jeff Ranf, and they reflect a real commitment. The AGA has been the backbone of Alaska golf since 1959 - administering handicaps, rating courses, running championships. But we're no longer content to work quietly in the background. Alaska's golfers deserve an association that is visible, engaged, and fighting for the growth of the game every single day. That's the AGA going forward.
