Join the AGA & Get Your Handicap
Start with a free AGA membership (juniors) or affordable adult membership. Get your official GHIN Handicap Index® so you have a baseline to grow from.

Take a Few Lessons
A handful of lessons with a local PGA teaching pro will accelerate your progress dramatically. Many Alaska courses offer beginner women's programs — fun, friendly, and completely judgment-free.

Play Your First Round
Start on a par-3 or executive course — or just play nine holes at your local track. Post your score to GHIN. That's it. You're a golfer.

Join a Women's League or Group
Playing with others is how the game really comes alive. AGA women's events are welcoming to all handicaps. You'll find your group quickly.

Keep Playing. Keep Improving.
Golf rewards consistency. Post every round, take occasional lessons, and play as often as Alaska's seasons allow. You'll be amazed how quickly you improve.
A Note for New Players
You Don't Need
to Be Good to Start

The most common thing we hear from women who finally try golf is: "I wish I had started sooner." Golf has a learning curve — but the curve is where all the fun is. Every woman who has ever played her best round started somewhere.

The AGA community is patient, encouraging, and genuinely excited to welcome new players. Alaska's golf culture is warm, not intimidating. Come as you are.

Do I need my own clubs to join?
No. Many courses offer rental sets. Start with a small set of basics — you don't need 14 clubs to enjoy the game.
What does a GHIN Handicap cost?
Junior membership (18 & under) is completely free through the AGA. Adult membership is available at a low annual rate that includes your GHIN Handicap.
Will I feel out of place as a beginner?
Not here. AGA women's events are specifically designed to be welcoming at all skill levels. Beginners are celebrated, not sidelined.
How short is Alaska's golf season?
Typically May through September in most of Alaska — longer in some areas. Short seasons make every round feel more precious. Alaskan golfers have a reputation for passion precisely because of it.

The flagship women's individual competition in Alaska. Multiple flight divisions ensure every skill level has a fair and exciting competition. Winning an AGA championship is a genuine accomplishment that follows you for life.

USGA Women's Qualifiers
AGA members can compete in USGA local qualifying events held right here in Alaska — including the U.S. Women's Amateur and U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur. These are world-class events with a pathway to the national stage.
