Our Mission

Growing the Game Across Alaska

The Alaska Golf Association is a non-profit advocate committed to providing golfers of every level - junior, new, and experienced - with opportunities to play and develop their passion for the game.

Since 1959, the AGA has served as Alaska's USGA allied golf association, administering the handicap system, rating courses, running state championships, and keeping golf alive across one of the world's most remarkable landscapes.

Together, our efforts empower Alaska's golf community to make the sport accessible for all - from Anchorage's championship courses to the Midnight Sun fairways of Fairbanks and the remote links of Southeast Alaska.

Championship Management

Handicap Administration

Alaska's authoritative source for the USGA Rules of Golf - education, officials, and resources for all players.
A Message from the President

The AGA Is Growing

The Alaska Golf Association has been going through some major changes and improvements. There has been a leadership change on the staff, and we have a robust tournament schedule planned for 2026 - and the host courses are excited to have us.

Our Board of Directors has been enthusiastically diving into their roles: getting the AGA on track, addressing women's golf throughout Alaska, growing junior golf, expanding social media presence, and growing membership statewide. We're really focusing on improving our relationships with all of our golf courses - with the overarching objective of being more visible in our golfing community.

One of the biggest changes we're excited about is our partnership with WA Golf. They're helping us meet all the core measurements the USGA requires of allied golf associations - Handicap Administration, Course Rating, Championship Management, Education & Outreach, and supporting local golf.

We also finished our very first membership virtual Town Hall, highlighted what the Board is focusing on, and where we want to take the AGA. There were a lot of good questions - and we'll be doing more Town Halls in the future. See you on the golf course.

History
1959
The Alaska Golf Association Is Founded
The AGA is established as Alaska's governing body for amateur golf, becoming an allied golf association of the USGA. From the beginning, the AGA's mission was to develop and expand the game throughout Alaska's vast and challenging terrain.
1960s - 1980s
Course Growth & Championship Foundations
Alaska's golf infrastructure expands significantly. Courses like Fairbanks Golf & Country Club (1946), Eagleglen (1972), and Birch Ridge (1973) establish the network that the AGA begins rating and sanctioning for official handicap purposes.
1986 - 1990
Championship Venues Take Shape
Palmer Golf Course opens in 1990, designed by William Overdorf, and quickly becomes the AGA's premier championship venue. Kenai Golf Course and Anchorage Golf Course open in the same era, expanding statewide access to rated golf.
2000
Moose Run Creek Course Opens
Designed by Robin Nelson and Neil Haworth, Moose Run Creek opens at JBER in Anchorage and immediately becomes Alaska's most challenging course - earning a Course Rating of 78.0 and Slope of 142, the highest in the state.
2020
World Handicap System Adopted
The AGA transitions to the new USGA World Handicap System alongside golf associations worldwide, unifying six previously separate handicap systems into a single global standard.
2025 - 2026
A New Chapter for Alaska Golf
New leadership, a WA Golf partnership, a redesigned website, expanded junior programs, and the first-ever five-year tournament rotation mark a new era for the AGA.
