About the Event
What is the Lamey Cup?

The PNGA Lamey Cup is the annual Ryder Cup-style team championship of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association, kicking off the PNGA's competitive season each spring. Six member associations - Alaska Golf Association, British Columbia Golf, the Idaho Golf Association, Montana State Golf Association, Oregon Golf Association, and Washington Golf - each field a 10-player team of top amateur golfers, competing across multiple age and gender divisions over two days of match play.

The event was founded in 2006 by past PNGA President Dr. Jack Lamey as a way of building camaraderie and partnership among the region's golf associations. Dr. Lamey was inducted into the PNGA Hall of Fame and passed away in December 2019. The event and its perpetual trophy are named in his honor.

The Lamey Cup rotates annually through the member associations' home regions. With both men's and women's scores counting equally toward the team result, it is the only known championship of its kind in the United States and Canada.

2026 - Victoria, B.C.
Alaska's First Lamey Cup Team

The AGA joined the PNGA as a member association in 2025, and in 2026 four Alaska players earned spots representing the state as part of Team PNGA for the 19th Lamey Cup, held April 27-29 at historic Victoria Golf Club in Victoria, B.C. AGA President Jeff Ranf was on hand to be with the team.

Alaska competes through a shared "Team PNGA" format - rosters include up to five Alaska players, with the remaining spots drawn from other member associations based on player accomplishments in the prior year.

British Columbia Golf claimed their fourth Lamey Cup title, holding a narrow lead through four-ball and foursomes before pulling away with 7.5 singles points on the final day. Victoria Golf Club, one of the six founding clubs of the PNGA (est. 1899), previously hosted the event in 2007. This was Alaska's debut as a competing association.

How It Works
Competition Format

Day One
Four-Ball & Foursomes

Teams compete in four-ball (best ball) and foursome (alternate shot) matches against each of the other five associations. These partnership formats demand communication and trust - pairs are selected strategically by each team's captain.

Day Two
Singles Matches

Every player steps out individually in head-to-head singles. Two singles matches are played against each opponent association - this is where championships are won and lost, and where individual grit becomes the story.

Team Score
20 Matches per Team

Each association plays one four-ball, one foursome, and two singles matches against each of its five opponents - 20 total matches. Points accumulate throughout; the team with the most points at the end wins the Lamey Cup.

What Makes It Unique
Men's and Women's Combined

Men's and women's match results contribute equally to the team total - making the Lamey Cup the only known event of its kind in the U.S. and Canada. Both the captain's strategy and roster depth across all divisions shape the final outcome.

Representing Alaska
Eligibility for the Alaska Team

Spots are earned through play. The AGA tracks a season-long points list across its sanctioned events, and that record determines the Alaska players who represent the state on Team PNGA. To be eligible for the Alaska Lamey Cup team, a player must meet both of the following requirements.

1
Reach age 25 by the Lamey Cup event dates

Players must have reached the age of 25 or older by the dates of the Lamey Cup. The roster is built across five playing divisions - Men's Mid-Amateur, Men's Master-40, Senior Men, Women's Mid-Amateur, and Senior Women - so where your game fits determines the division you compete in for a spot.

2
Play in at least 4 AGA-sanctioned events

You must compete in a minimum of four AGA-sanctioned events during the qualifying season. Those events fall into three groups - AGA State Championship Events, Course Championships, and USGA Qualifiers - listed in full in the next section. An active AGA membership with a GHIN index is required to enter them.

Results from those events feed the AGA points list, and the AGA determines the final team from it. To ask how your record stacks up or how selection works, contact the AGA directly.
